Act of kindness from a stranger that left elderly woman speechless (2025)

A young Kansasbusiness owner completely changed an elderly woman's life with a small act of kindness that left her speechless - and nearly $1million richer.

The woman, known only online as Beth, was struggling to keep up with the work in her yard inWichita, Kansas.

She was contacted by the city, who told her to pay them $240 in fines to clean it up.

That's when landscaper Spencer B, of SB Mowing, stepped in, volunteering to clean up the space for free.He went further after learning of her plight, launching a GoFundMe to help her pay other bills, and sharing her story on his popular TikTok channel.

Now, thefundraisersits at nearly $1million dollars, with more than 35,000 strangers donating to help the elderly woman.

'I thought maybe we'd get $30,000 to $40,000,' a stunned Spencer told DailyMail.com.

When a city employee called Spencer B. - who owns SB Mowing - about Beth's overgrown lawn in Wichita, Kansas, he drove out to the house to see what he could do as she had a looming $240 fine coming her way

It took Spencer 10 hours to clean up the mess, which he documented on his YouTube page, bringing Beth to tears at his kindness. The 26-year-old also did it all for free

As of Wednesday, the fundraiser has garnered $889,682 across 35,500 donations.

When Spencer was first called to the house, the grass had reached a few feet tall in some areas, bushes were overgrown, and greenery was spilling out onto the roadway. No company wanted to come out and help her as the yard had grown unruly.

Adding to her plight, the home's resident, who is in her 70s, could not walk up her front steps without considerable difficulty.

Spencer estimated the total cost of work was between $500 and $1,000, but he didn't want a cent.

'It's just something that I do,' Spencer, who has been mowing lawns since he was 10, told DailyMail.com.

He's been providing lawncare services for free since 2021 and makes all his money via social media.

'Beth is a really sweet older woman,' he told DailyMail.com.

But Spencer went beyond just taming her feisty yard jungle, he even raised nearly $1million for her on GoFundMe. She was speechless when she found out

After posting his original video, he got many people asking him where they could donate to Beth, so he took to the popular crowdfunding site to give people a 'central location' to pour their goodwill into.

He also set up a trust in Beth's name so that only she can access the money, and one of the first things they bought was a new mattress, as her current one was 50 years old.

He's gone on to help Beth, who recently broke her hip, even more by having a cleaning and maintenance crew come into her home to spruce things up and make it more accessible to her.

'She doesn't get around much anymore,' he told DailyMail.com in a phone interview.

Beth, who Spencer now considers family, lives alone and is 'fending for herself' as her son, who she is not very close to, lives out in California. She also faces mobility issues and needs a cane to get around safely.

Spencer also wants to help her get a chairlift for the steps leading to her basement, where the washer and dryer are, and a ramp to lead up to her front steps.

Additionally, the money will go to paying a company to maintain her lawn and shrubbery, so she doesn't have to worry about long grass or fines.

When he revealed his work to her, Beth was blown away and overwhelmed by the touching gesture.

'Spencer, wow!' Beth said in the video as she came out to see his hard work. 'I cried on and off just listening to your machine.

'It's looking like I'm back in action! That's fantastic!'

As Beth climbed the steps to her home, she grew emotional, telling Spencer: 'No one has been happy to help me. Thank you, sweetheart. Thank you so much.'

After he set up the trust and showed her how much the fundraiser - which is still open to donations - made, the older woman had to hold back tears as she sat across from him in shock.

'I still don't understand, but maybe I'm not supposed to,' she told him before calling him a 'darling little boy.'

As for what she plans on doing with the money, that's currently on pause as she recovers from her hip injury (pictured: in the hospital)

'She's such a sweet woman,' Spencer told DailyMail.com. 'This is huge for her'

'Never in a million years, did I think this would happen.'

She is considering moving in a patio home - where there will be no stairs - and is also considering a move to California to be closer to her son, Spencer told DailyMail.com. She's also considering getting a new car.
