Secuoya Studios Wins 2025 MIP SDG Award for Sustainable TV Production (2025)

Imagine a world where the magic of television and film production comes with a hefty environmental price tag. The truth is, the entertainment industry has a significant impact on our planet, but one Spanish studio is leading the charge towards a more sustainable future. Secuoya Studios, a Madrid-based production powerhouse, is set to receive the prestigious 2025 MIP SDG Award at MIPCOM Cannes, a testament to its groundbreaking sustainable production program.

The award, presented in collaboration with the United Nations, recognizes companies that are driving progress towards the UN's Sustainable Development Goals through their work in television and streaming. Secuoya Studios has become a trailblazer in environmentally responsible production practices in Spain, with a slew of initiatives that are making waves in the industry.

But here's where it gets interesting: Secuoya's commitment to sustainability goes far beyond a simple greenwashing exercise. The studio has developed a comprehensive approach that includes the Greenbook Sustainable Filming Protocol, created in partnership with eco-consultancy Mrs. Greenfilm. This protocol provides a framework for sustainable production practices that can be adopted by producers and studios around the world.

Another key initiative is the establishment of a Sustainable Management Seal, the first independently audited environmental certification of its kind in Spain. This seal ensures that Secuoya's productions meet rigorous environmental standards, from reducing waste and carbon emissions to promoting eco-friendly transportation and energy-efficient equipment.

And this is the part most people miss: Secuoya Studios has also created a dedicated sustainability department, which assigns an Eco Manager to each production. This ensures that sustainability is integrated into every aspect of the production process, from pre-production to post-production.

'At Secuoya Studios, we believe that sustainability is a guiding commitment that shapes the way we create, produce, and share content with the world,' said Secuoya CEO Brendan Fitzgerald in a statement. 'It's a commitment based on innovation, technology, and strategic alliances that drive lasting change. We're excited to share our approach with the global production community at MIPCOM and demonstrate how universally adoptable these practices can be.'

The 2025 MIP SDG Award will be presented to Secuoya Studios at MIPCOM Cannes on October 15 by Caroline Petit, Deputy Director of the United Nations Regional Information Centre for Europe. Previous recipients of the award include A+E Networks, Sky, and Studio Silverback.

But what do you think? Do you believe that the entertainment industry has a responsibility to prioritize sustainability, or is this just a nice-to-have? Share your thoughts in the comments below! Should studios and producers be held accountable for their environmental impact, or is this just a distraction from the creative process? Let's discuss!

The 2025 MIPCOM Cannes runs from October 13-16, and it's an event not to be missed for anyone interested in the future of sustainable production practices.
